What is Boreas?

A fictional World

Boreas is the world my fictional novels of the Boreas' Tribes Saga take place in. This world, Boreas has a long and rich history. Some of it enviable, some of it not so much. At the time the Boreas' Tribes Saga takes place, this world is its fifth Epoch.

The Epochs

First Epoch: (12213 years) Starting with the settlement of the world, as one of the last worlds settled by humanoids, this Epoch starts with the population focused on their own world, with time discovering dragons and magic exist in it. Sometime in the middle of the First Epoch, dragons and magic vanish from this world. The First Epoch sees this world emerging as a space-faring civilization.

Second Epoch: (2375 years) Developing high technology, becoming one of, if not the most technologically advanced world in the quadrant of the galaxy.

Third Epoch: (21732 years) Expansion, at times brutally, into the universe. Boreas becomes the first galactic empire which at its peak consists of around twenty-five thousand worlds. This expansion, the empire collapse from within.

Fourth Epoch: (7843 years) The difficult times. Marked by warlords and chieftains, ruling by violence. Sharp Population decline. Slowly, a consensus spreads within the remaining populous, to create a new form of society. After decades and centuries of work to establish the required new structures and cleaning up the relics of a technological society, Boreas emerges at the end of the Fourth Epoch ready for something new.

Fifth Epoch: (current at the times Of Boreas' Tribes Saga) A society with no to low technology in daily life. (Does not mean technology does not exist behind the scenes to make it possible). A society void of currency. A society everyone contributes to in their chosen way. A society focused on an intentional life. A society in which race, gender, heritage, family do not define the possibilities. Only the interest of the individual.

Where does the idea come from?

The world comes from a video game idea we have been curating in the family for close to twenty years. Collecting thousands of snippets and details. The hand drawn map is from the year 2009. I'm using these materials, this world to set my books in.

Where to take it?

For the time being, it is exploring the Fifth Epoch. There is enough history and material to create additional series, e.g. in the First Epoch, during the time of the original dragon riders, which would be far more fantasy heavy. Or during the Second Epoch or Third Epoch, which would be far more sci-fi heavy. The Fourth Epoch would be a time for dystopian novels. Possibilities, possibilities, possibilities.
